The chimpanzee starring in the video is Ayumu, and he is doing a memory exercise. Ayumu has proven that chimpanzees have the incredible ability to memorize and place a sequence of numbers in the correct order after seeing them for less than a second. This task is nearly impossible for a human to do.
Ayumu was born on April 24th, 2000, to parents Ai and Akira at the Primate Research Institute at Kyoto University. He is a part of the renowned Ai Project (named after his mother) directed by Dr. Tetsuro Matsuzawa. The project seeks to better understand chimpanzee intelligence.
